National War Memorial

I was on my way back from a shoot this morning at the Press Gallery on Parliament Hill and decided to walk by the National War Memorial to see what was left on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as to check out the additions to the Memorial itself. The memorial now sports the dates for the Boer War and the Afghanistan War as well as the “In Service to Canada”. As you will see from the pictures, some people took some effort to make sure their poppies were visible.

The other thing that really struck me was on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Someone had left a rubber bracelet with “Lest We Forget” on it and it was in the shadow of the helmet, but with the sun just coming around to the south-west, the printing just caught the sun to stand out. I was going to say that I couldn’t have staged this better myself, but in truth, I probably couldn’t have staged it at all.

I think these pictures with the bracelet are my new favourites of the tomb.
