Remembrance Day

Today was the day to remember those who served and sacrificed on our behalf and the ceremony I attended was at the National Military Cemetery, part of Beechwood Cemetery. The day was sunny and warmish (for November in Canada) and the ceremony went off well. Normally I would post the entire event of pictures and eventually they will make the gallery but I thought I’d share only a few from the event and then share a couple that made me smile or tugged at my heart a bit. Things like a young girl with a fresh loss, a family in mourning with a loss from two weeks ago, the grave still fresh with mounded earth, soldiers removing their poppies and placing them at the foot of the headstone of a fallen comrade. These are things that bring a lump to your throat. But as well, I got to meet Coco, a small service dog that makes visits to the elderly, the picture of a man on a bench, dozing in the warm sun and a real live member of the Devil’s Brigade and these things made me smile. So, I guess the day is filled with both sorrow and smiles and that ain’t all bad.
