Lame Ducks down CFC

It’s time again for Lame Ducks hockey as the Ottawa Service Attachés Association (OSAA), made up of the defence attachés from the Ottawa area, suited up to take on their rivals from the Canadian Forces College International Studies Programme from Toronto, also composed of international players. Both teams are made of members from various countries with skating abilities on par with Canadians to less-than-so from some of the warmer countries. As such, both teams came matched with good skaters and those who tried their best.

The Lame Ducks came out hot and scored within the first minute of play and again after four minutes finally ending the period up 4-0. The Ducks passed well and moved back onto defence quickly when pressed while all the time protecting their goalies who, given the final score of 9-0 (one score was not put up on the board so it only showed 8-0 at the end), had a pretty easy time of it with only a couple of shots on net.

The final score of 9-0 is not indicative of the balance of the game in that the CFC team came to play and had launched their share of attacks on the Ducks. But the Ducks managed to collapse on their attackers, regaining the puck then heading down to the other end of the rink. In all, it was an entertaining game with good play back and forth and many collisions between skaters resulting in some good falls to the ice.

At the reception, the famed Moose Trophy was returned to Col. Worsham (USA) on behalf of the Ducks and the date of 2nd June, 2019, set for the rematch in Toronto. Col. Igor Starkov (Russian Federation) was named the Lame Ducks MVP and the goalie for the CFC Internationals, indicating how hard he had to work, was named MVP for their team.
