100th Anniversary of the Great War

Today there was a ceremony at the National War Memorial marking Canada’s entry into the Great War. Prime Minister Harper laid a wreath to mark the occasion.

It is important to remember that this was not a remembrance ceremony as remembrance ceremonies celebrate the efforts and sacrifices made by the participants. This ceremony only marked the beginning of the conflict and that is why it was a much shorter ceremony without the traditional laying of wreaths by all the veterans groups and foreign dignitaries.

It also gave me a chance to try out the new Nikon D810 under working conditions and using the 80-400 mm lens. We were restricted to the media risers on the east side of the square so longer lenses were required. I’m happy to say the the D810 is everything the D800 should have been.
