Commando Challenge VI

The Esprit de Corps Commandos have started the 2017 season with a bang, both the Lite team and the big boys. It all started with the Commando Lites playing the OSAA Lame Ducks (made up of foreign Defence Liaison Officers), who make up with enthusiasm what they lack in skating skills. Before the start, Amanda Jordan sang the national anthem and the ceremonial puck drop was handled by the 2017 Invictus Games mascot, Vimy. It was a well played game but the outcome favoured the Commando Lites 4-1 over the Lame Ducks.

The next game featured the DND General Officers and Flag Officers team (GOFOs) led by Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Jonathan Vance against Scott Taylor’s Commandos. It was a fast, well played game with plenty of scoring opportunities. In the last minute the GOFOs were trailing and pulled their goalie for the extra man but it was for naught as the Commandos held on for a 4-3 win.

During the after party, MVPs were selected from each team for both games, a short address by Invictus Games reps was made, and a cheque for $5,500 was presented to the Cadet League. To end the evening, Amanda Jordan took to the small stage again as people finished off the pizza and beer.
